BIOGRAPHY: SCULPTURE AND PAINTING
Janet Hunter studied art and archaeology at the University of Toronto where she was classically trained in life drawing, painting and sculpture. Her academic interest in aesthetics and art history as well as a life-long habit of figure drawing and a love of the challenge of drapery, inform both her sculpture and painting. She graduated with a four year Honours degree in Fine Art and went on to receive a Bachelor and Masters in Education. With the exception of a two-year hiatus as a gallery assistant in a Yorkville gallery, she pursued a professional vocation as an art teacher in several Ontario secondary schools, the last twenty-four of thirty years in the large Art Department at Northern Secondary. Over her career she taught art history, design, drawing, illustration, material arts, painting, and weaving – every discipline except sculpture. Upon retirement she joined the Al Green Sculpture Studio where she worked for twenty years. In the last two years she has returned to painting the live costume model at the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. |
